Guide: An explosion of folk in the spring programme

The next couple of months at ALICE will be a true treat for folk lovers, as we’re presenting a range of wonderful takes on traditional songwriting from Slovenia, Brazil, France, and the USA.

On April 27th, you can dive into an ambient evening with enchanted everyday objects, fragmented field recordings, and Occitan folk music in a triple bill with claire rousay, Sourdure, and Adela Mede.

Come May, two brilliant Brazilian musicians will pay us a visit. Experience a soulful evening with true star quality as Céu, who has previously played sold-out shows at both ALICE and Global, finally returns to Copenhagen on May 4th. Just three days later, singer-songwriter Leo Middea will perform his modern take on bossa and samba canção steeped in old-school soul.

Right in between these two shows, on May 5th, Maria Mazzotta – one of the greatest voices of Southern Italy – will grace us with her new solo album “Amoreamaro” (bitter love), an intense and passionate reflection on the various faces of love.

On May 12th, American Chris Eckman – the man behind Glitterbeat Records, whose many fantastic artists guest ALICE at a regular basis – will perform his dark, gloomy Americana together with Slovenian Blaž Celarec on drums and Žiga Golob on double bass.

And if you prefer futuristic sounds to traditional ones, we highly recommend going to see Lyra Pramuk, whose sound has been described as posthuman futuristic folk, at Valby Kulturhus on May 12th.

Have a wonderful, folk-filled spring everyone.
