About ALICE

ALICE is a regional music venue in Nørrebro that presents new music of high artistic quality across a broad spectrum of rhythmic genres and hybrid expressions that rarely find space on Danish stages. With a heart that beats respectfully for a diverse representation of cultures and artistic expressions, ALICE combines a global outlook with a strong commitment to local environments and emerging scenes, opening up both the ecstasy of the dance floor and spaces for intense listening and critical discussion.

The concert program is curated by a music group consisting of four bookers, who collectively set the direction for the venue’s artistic profile. With its diverse composition and collective, democratic working process, the music group is a defining feature of ALICE and the core of the venue’s work toward broader representation and stronger concert experiences. In addition, ALICE is run by a board, a permanent staff, a group of skilled freelancers, and more than 70 dedicated volunteers. Through ALICE’s special membership scheme, more than 500 loyal members also contribute to the engaged and music-loving community surrounding the venue.

ALICE opened its doors on February 1, 2018, as a new initiative when the venues Global and Jazzhouse merged. In 2024, ALICE was reappointed by Statens Kunstfond as a regional venue for the period 2025–2028. With more than 300 concerts annually, ALICE stands out as Denmark’s leading presenter of diversity within rhythmic music.

Projects and collaborations
ALICE is not only a stage for unique concert experiences but also uses its position as a regional venue to open music to new generations. Through school concerts, we invite students from grades 0–10 into professional settings and create intimate, unforgettable encounters with the magic of the concert hall—with support from Augustinus Fonden. At the same time, the volunteer-driven project ALICE TUNES IN hands the stage over to new forces, making the concert hall and facilities available to emerging voices and musical initiatives.

The venue collaborates with a wide range of partners—locally, nationally, and internationally—on everything from festivals and tours to individual curated concert evenings and programs. Among the collaborators are TEMPI, Klang, Musikbevægelsen af 2019, Roskilde Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Strøm, Copenhagen Opera Festival, JazzDanmark, Copenhagen Contemporary, Resonator Festival, Sankt Annæ MGK, and Athelas Sinfonietta. We are always open to collaborations that explore boundary-pushing music or the public discussion of music’s role in society, and our partnerships extend far beyond Denmark’s borders, with networks connecting to more than 250 agencies and music producers worldwide.

ALICE has also presented concerts at a number of prominent external venues, including Marmorkirken, Grundtvigs Kirke, Sankt Johannes Kirke, Brorsons Kirke, Bellevue Teatret, Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium’s concert hall, and Glyptoteket.

ALICE is supported by Statens Kunstfond, Københavns Kommune, AP Møller Fonden, and Augustinus Fonden.
