Jason Sharp
A mainstay of Montreal’s avant-jazz, experimental and improv music community for many years, and hailing from the iconic experimental label Constellation, Jason Sharp is a saxophonist and electro-acoustic composer whose music fuses technology and the human body. Blending extended saxophone techniques with his horn, breath, and physical pulse filtered through customized electronics, Sharp charts a soaring soundscape of electroacoustic biofeedback.
On May 17th, Jason Sharp will take the stage with his latest album The Turning Centre Of A Still World, on which Sharp – in addition to breathy saxophone loops – employs a heart monitor to generate the rhythms of various synthesizers and samplers. The result is a collection of eerie and ominous sci-fi-soundtrack-esque compositions; but deeper, grittier, and earthier.
Alto Aria
Alto Aria is the name of Maria Leth Schütze’s solo project. With the project, she investigates relations between acoustic and electronic sound and focuses on transformation and transition as a starting point in her music. With her debut album ‘Tides’, which was released through Rhizome, Maria focuses on tides, becoming a body of water and the transience of everything. Maria also released a small experimental piece, ‘For Marta’, on friendship and circularity, and the album ‘Shapes’, based on a dream diary. This spring she releases the album Sowing Worlds’, and we can’t wait to hear what’s in store as she visits ALICE this May.
