Chalk up your dancing shoes for this magnificent double concert evening featuring two leading Scandinavian folk music trios at ALICE. Swedish Hialøsa has deep roots in Skåne folk music and offers wonderful encounters between violins spanning three octaves, rhythmic bass, stomping feet, and melodious vocals, while the local trio Gangspil plays old dance tunes from all corners of Denmark – from lively polkas to soulful “sønderhonings”.

Hialøsa
Swedish Hialøsa plays traditional music from Skåne, and the trio is currently active with the concert “Scanian Very Old Pop”. In wonderful encounters between violins spanning three octaves, a rhythmic bass, stomping feet, and melodious vocals, audiences are treated to everything from raw polkas to wonderful chorales. The sound is lively and a combination of new and old compositions inspired by traditional songs, dance tunes, and the history of Skåne, stories of life and death, and the memory of a past looking towards the future. Hialøsa was nominated for the Newcomer of the Year at the Swedish Folk and World Music Gala 2023.

Gangspil
The Danish trio Gangspil guarantees an entertaining and unforgettable musical journey through Danish folk music. The three lively musicians offer old dance tunes from all corners of Denmark, including Læsø, Fanø, Lolland, and Mors, as well as the regions around Thy and Copenhagen. Audiences can expect everything from lively polkas and jigs to lyrical waltzes, sweeping reels, joyful hopsas, and – not least – beautiful “sønderhonings” from Fanø’s famous music tradition. Both Kristian Bugge and Sonnich Lydom were among the first 12 musicians appointed as “Danmarks Rigsspillemænd” in 2014, and in 2016, Gangspil received two prestigious awards at the Danish Music Award Folk.
