“The Scientist isn’t just mixing – he’s conducting a sonic symphony.” – Rolling Stone

Hopeton Brown – known worldwide as The Scientist Dubmaster – is celebrated as one of the most innovative and influential pioneers of reggae and dub. The Jamaican producer began his career in Kingston in the late 1970s, honing his skills at the legendary King Tubby’s iconic studio. There, he brought a new dimension to the art of mixing, transforming the mixing desk into a living instrument capable of shaping, recomposing and reimagining sound itself. With his unmistakable deep basslines, far-reaching echoes and hypnotic reverberations, Scientist redefined dub and created a signature sound that has inspired countless producers ever since.

His groundbreaking albums – “Scientist Wins the World Cup” (1982), “Heavyweight Dub Champion” (1980) and, above all, “Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires” (1981), which he will perform this evening – remain timeless masterpieces of the dub genre. Scientist has worked with some of reggae’s biggest icons, including Barrington Levy, Roots Radics, Johnny Osbourne and Augustus Pablo, while inspiring new generations of musicians across reggae, hip-hop and electronic music. In 2010, he even took on a remix of Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s “Telephone”! But on this special night, Scientist returns to his roots, performing his classic horror-themed dub album in its entirety.
