Sara Curruchich GT

One of Guatemalas most compelling voices enters ALICE with empowering folk and Maya poetry

Sara Curruchich brings together her Maya heritage with cumbia, rock, reggae and Latin American folk traditions in moving and powerful live performances. With a crystal-clear voice and deeply resonant songs, the award-winning singer-songwriter and activist creates space for stories of identity, resistance and community. Experience one of Guatemala’s most compelling musical voices when Sara Curruchich performs at ALICE this autumn.

Sara Curruchich is one of Guatemala’s biggest musical acts and also the first internationally touring artist to bring the Indigenous Mayan language Kaqchikel to major stages around the world. The acclaimed Guatemalan singer and activist seamlessly bridges ancestral traditions and contemporary sounds, weaving together cumbia, reggae and rock with genres such as chacarera and son jarocho in warm, organic arrangements driven by a powerful activist spirit.

Drawing on her own experiences as a Maya woman, Curruchich writes and sings with honesty about racism, patriarchal oppression and discrimination. At the same time, her music is filled with hope and a profound commitment to dignity, diversity and solidarity, particularly with Indigenous peoples and Latin America’s LGBTQ+ communities. Her artistic work has earned her an appointment as Ambassador for UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality in Central America, and together with her four-piece all-female band she has captivated audiences at festivals including SXSW, Folk Alliance, Calgary Folk Festival and Colours of Ostrava.

We are delighted to welcome one of Latin America’s most powerful voices to ALICE this autumn, as Sara Curruchich takes the stage with her exceptional band.
