SADA Band builds bridges between musical worlds. Rooted in the classical Arabic vocal tradition, the ensemble brings familiar sounds into dialogue with new expressions, while the spiritual dimension of Sufi music lends the music a particular intimacy. There is room for both contemplation and virtuosity, for floating melodies and lively interplay. Live, SADA Band invites audiences into a musical universe where traditions are not simply preserved, but brought to life anew through the meeting of four musicians.
At the forefront is Syrian singer Bakri Hemmami, who grew up in Aleppo, immersed in the city’s rich musical heritage, and studied under prominent masters of Sufi music. Since moving to Denmark, he has made his mark through a wide range of collaborations on the Danish and international music scenes. On viola and Arabic violin is Jordanian musician Islam Jaran, who has studied both classical and Arabic music at several music institutions in Jordan. Palestinian flamenco guitarist Obai Bitar brings together Arabic maqam and Andalusian sounds. His studies of flamenco in Córdoba and at Lund University have helped shape his distinctive musical expression, earning his band a Global Music Award in 2022. On darbuka and percussion, Syrian musician Bader Debs brings rhythmic flair and extensive experience from collaborations with some of the biggest stars in the Middle East. Today, he tours as a solo artist and leads two Sweden-based bands.
We look forward to welcoming SADA Band to ALICE for a truly special evening.
