Nídia (PT) + DJ Marfox (PT) + DJ Tjiquita

The best from Lisbon's experimental electronic scene

Since 2011, the Lisbon-based label and artist collective Príncipe Discos has been central for the iconic batida sound: an experimental electronic dance music that has grown out of Lisbon’s suburbs, ghettos and blocks. Batida DJs mix various samples, techno and house with genres such as kuduro and kizomba, which have roots in the old Portuguese colonies in Africa. This February, we are proud to present two of the most significant names from Príncipe Discos: DJ Marfox and Nídia. Copenhagen-based DJ Tjiquita will throw the city’s best Latin DJ set with everything from Mexican dub and Puerto Rican reggaetón to Colombian jungle techno. The concert is presented in collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy and Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua Portugal.

DJ Marfox
Batida pioneer Marlon Silva aka DJ Marfox is a legend on the Lisbon electronic scene as well as in the international network for new directions in social electronic music. DJ Marfox grew up in the Bairo da Portela blocks on the outskirts of Lisbon and started as a DJ in 2002. He has put out a large number of releases and collaborated with icons such as Fever Ray, Elza Soares, tUnE-yArDs and Panda Bear. With his heavy grooving batida, reflecting his roots in Lisbon’s multicultural ghetto, DJ Marfox will take care of the dancefloor.

Nídia
Nídia Borges is an African-Portuguese electronic producer and DJ. Under the alias Nídia (formerly Nídia Minaj), she has made a name for herself since 2015 as the first female DJ at Príncipe. She has been a central figure in the environment around the record company and on Lisbon’s experimental electronic scene. Her kuduro grooves have also spread beyond Portugal’s borders, to the delight of the audience as well as collaborators such as Fever Ray, Tirzah and Mica Levi.

DJ Tjiquita
DJ Tjiquita will throw a set before the concerts. She plays music based on one dogma: that it is produced and published by Latin American artists. The genres thereby interpret Latin American music in all its guises and embrace everything from Mexican dub, Puerto Rican reggaetón to Colombian jungle techno, and serve as a reminder of Latin America’s infinite diversity and multiplicity.
