Juniper Fuse Ensemble DK/CA

A labyrinth of percussion
ADVISORY

The experimental avant-jazz ensemble Juniper Fuse embraces the ambiguous, multifaceted, and intuitive. Rooted in the compositions of award-winning composer and pianist Matt Choboter, Juniper Fuse creates a labyrinth of unconventional percussion with microtonal vibraphone, prepared pianos, and the traditional Balinese instrument selonding.

A sonic ritual – that’s what you can expect when the avant-jazz ensemble Juniper Fuse visits ALICE this December for what will undoubtedly be a consciousness-expanding evening. Drawing inspiration from South Indian classical music and Balinese gamelan, as well as liminal psychology, dreamwork, and spirituality, Juniper Fuse shapes an astonishingly beautiful and ever-shifting musical entity. MusicWorks has described it as “a realized musical dream”, while the ensemble itself calls it “a labyrinth of unusual percussion.”

Juniper Fuse is a union of musicians across generations and musical backgrounds. Formed in 2022, the ensemble consists of saxophonist Lotte Anker, pianists Simon Toldam and Matt Choboter, and percussionists Matias Seibæk and Peter Bruun. Earlier this year, they performed at the PULSAR Festival and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and released their debut album Nagual, which came out on KAIROS in June. The music on the album, written by Matt Choboter, embraces the ambiguous, the multifaceted, and the intuitive. It is not music that follows a predetermined path – it is music that forges its own way between mind, body, and universe. Come and experience Juniper Fuse transform our concert hall into a one, shared consciousness!
