Singer, songwriter and producer Alejandro Salazar was born in Peru but raised between Queens, New York, and Massachusetts. He had already established a long-standing career on the alternative R&B and hip-hop scene under the moniker A.CHAL when he decided to reconnect with his roots, his Peruvian identity, spirituality, and the folk traditions that have shaped his heritage. The result is a compelling new take on Peruvian chicha, where danceable cumbia, traditional Andean huayno music and electric guitars meet A.CHAL’s urban sound. Once looked down upon by Lima’s established upper class, chicha is reclaimed by A.CHAL with pride and rebellious fire as he brings his country’s culture and folk traditions to the international pop scene – singing in Spanish and accompanied by a strong visual universe.
Like a Peruvian answer to Bad Bunny, A.CHAL brings together the street, migration, desire, roots and mysticism in a universe that moves naturally between the global and the Latin American. His music speaks directly to a generation and a zeitgeist that insists on protecting Indigenous cultures and taking pride in where we come from. After just three new singles that have firmly set the tone for a new and groundbreaking chapter in A.CHAL’s career, word of the Peruvian star has spread like wildfire. This autumn, he embarks on his first-ever European tour, and after huge demand, we are thrilled to present his first-ever Danish concert at ALICE. Come experience A.CHAL in an intimate setting, before he takes off for the biggest stages.
