Between Strings #3: Kirstine Lindemann & Damkapellet at Sort/Hvid // ALICE Works

Massive string installation and bodily compositions at Sort/Hvid theatre

Seven long strings, six musicians, sounds, space, and movement. This september, the Danish composer Kirstine Lindemann and the musical collective Damkapellet will present a brand new composition written for the massive string installation ‘Between Strings’. The concert is part of ALICE Works.

Please note the concert takes place at Sort/Hvid theatre at Vesterbro.

Between Strings #3 is a musical experience in sound, body and space. The piece is the third in composer Kirstine Lindemann’s series of works written for the installation Between Strings: A massive installation consisting of seven strings stretching wall to wall, with the addition of contact microphones, resonance chambers, and lights. In the interaction between sound, light, space, and movement, the piece creates a poetic look into the connections between us.

In Between Strings #3, the musical collective Damkapellet is invited on board, and the timing of the instrument is determined by their mutual listening. Here, one action sets the next in motion in an investigation of how listening can draw threads, create connections and reach beyond ourselves. The audience is invited to examine the work’s visual and sonic dimensions and experience the piece from different positions in the room during the concert, which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

After the concert, the audience is invited to hear more about the installation, the making of the installation, and the collaboration between musicians and composer through an informal Q&A with Damkapellet & Kirstine Lindemann.

Line-up:
Damkapellet: Ida Nørby, Irene Bianco, Josefine Weber Hansen, Nicole Hogstrand, Pauline Hogstrand and Randi Pontoppidan

Composer:
Kirstine Lindemann

About Kirstine Lindemann
With a particular interest in the body and movement as compositional material, Lindemann’s work revolves around the space between you and me. In her works, body and sound are thought of as musical expressions in an investigation of the limitations and possibilities of human connections. Lindemann has toured the world as both composer, performer, and instrumentalist, and has received several international awards for her innovative compositional work. Lindemann is currently a permanently affiliated artist at the Inter Arts Center in Malmö (SE) and is an active member of the musical collective Damkapellet (DK).

About Damkapellet
Based on a feminist vision of promoting gender balance in the music industry, Damkapellet works across genres and eras. With its anti-hierarchical and collective structure, Damkapellet is a breath of fresh air in the musical landscape. Though Damkapellet has roots in classical music, their creative practice is defined by community, listening, controlled chaos, trust, and curiosity in a continuous exploration of how we together create intense, organic and complete musical experiences.

Between Strings #3 is written with support from the Danish Arts Foundation and is part of ALICE Works.

About ALICE Works:
ALICE Works was born from an Open Call initiative launched by ALICE during the COVID-19 lockdown in early 2021. An attempt at developing new music, collaborations and experimental formats in a time of crisis. The concert series will present both Danish and international artists chosen via the Open Call process and will take place during 2021 and 2022.
