Alpha Maid UK

Charming DIY aesthetics, dub-infused guitar sounds, and dissonant songwriting from London’s experimental underground

The prolific South East London guitarist and songwriter Alpha Maid has spent years refining her hazy, DIY-driven expression, moving between lo-fi production, dub, and fragmented vocals. On her latest critically acclaimed album “Is This a Queue” (AD 93, 2025), Alpha Maid brings together her distinctive sound with songwriting that stands sharply on its own. We’re excited to present Alpha Maid as she takes over ALICE this May.

Since her debut in 2019 on CURL—the collective founded by artists including Mica Levi, Coby Sey, and Brother May—Alpha Maid, aka Leisha Thomas, has been a quiet yet striking voice on London’s experimental scene. Her music clearly reflects this community, with dusty textures, dissonant guitar tones, and an underlying sense of unease. At the same time, Alpha Maid draws on dub traditions that point back to her Jamaican roots and the cultural legacy of the Windrush generation.

After more than seven years and countless collaborations and EP releases on the London scene, Alpha Maid returns with “Is This a Queue” (AD 93, 2025). The album was written over several years and across different places—and you can hear it. It feels like a collection of moments, people, and moods that gradually unfold into a raw and sensory soundscape. Her guitar serves as the constant focal point, while the tracks move between hazy textures, fragile melodies, and emo-tinged flashes of intimacy. Created with guest appearances from artists including Valentina Magaletti, the album has been praised by outlets such as The Guardian and Boomkat, and also earned Alpha Maid a spot at Le Guess Who?. Now it’s finally ALICE’s turn to present the visionary guitarist—and we can’t wait.
