YEK: Mohammad Reza Mortazavi & Burnt Friedman (DE/IR) + TBA

Persian trance and electronic minimalism

Please note: ALICE carefully follows the COVID-19 regulations from the Danish authorities. All concerts in September and October will take place seated and with a very limited amount of tickets. Read more about ALICE and COVID-19 here.

Iconic German electronic musician Burnt Friedman meets Iranian percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, a modern master of the tonbak and daf – traditional Persian hand drums. As YEK they released an excellent EP in 2017 and now they’re ready with a new recording, presenting more trance inducing explorations of rhythm, sonic texture and minimalism. Mortazavi and Friedman move hands and faders according to odd cyclical rhythms with incredible accuracy. The extreme dynamic range and rhythmic congruency of drum and electronics merge Mortazavi`s and Friedman’s repertoire entirely. Their show at ALICE in 2018 was stunning, so we’re proud to present them as part of our DD2020-project together where we send them to Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg in collaboration with Tape and Studenterhuset.

The concert is part of a concert series presented by ALICE, Tape and Studenterhuset Aalborg. The project is part of the German-Danish Cultural Friendship Year 2020 – a comprehensive and collaborative initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institut, celebrating and developing the decades-long relationship grounded in common values and interests, setting an international example of peaceful coexistence in the 21st Century.
