Shiny Darkly
Since the release of their debut EP in 2012, Copenhagen-based band Shiny Darkly has continuously reinvented itself. From dark post-punk and drone to the elegant and eclectic genre experiments on their 2018 album Bronze, and now to the heavy alternative rock they practice today.
Shiny Darkly consists of Mads Lassen on drums and Kristoffer Bech on vocals and guitar. Lately, they have been experimenting with their live setup, which can range from a full lineup of musicians to performing as a duo. For the night at ALICE, they will present some new material with the band’s two musicians alone on stage. Don’t miss out on this chance to experience ever-evolving Shiny Darkly in an intimate and intense setup!
Water Damage
Water Damage operates by the principle of “Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation.” A whole lot of repetition and as little variation as possible pretty much sums up the sound of this American psych-drone collective. Their sonic landscapes transport you far, far away. Or, as Pitchfork has described the band’s music: “Forget music that makes you feel no pain. What about music that makes you feel like nothing at all, that pushes and pulverizes you until every woe, hope, and worry disappears like dust?” It may sound intense, but within the roaring minimalism of Water Damage’s sound lies something strangely irresistible; a slow, ecstatic surrender.
Over the years, Water Damage has counted from a handful to a dozen members – with two of whom are drummers. The collective features musicians known from projects like Spray Paint, Black Eyes, USA/Mexico, more eaze, Thor & Friends, Marriage, Swans, SUR, and Astral Spirits Records. Their music has been compared to Tony Conrad’s collaborative album with krautrock legends Faust, Outside the Dream Syndicate, the French motorik-rock band France, and even The Velvet Underground. The band’s latest release, ‘Instruments’ from May 2025, was described by The Quietus as “communal jams on astral planes.” Its predecessor, ‘E’, from last year was hailed by Pitchfork as “a reaffirming testament to just how ecstatic and mighty minimalism can be.” Come, get blown away, and let yourself be drawn into Water Damage’s hypnotic sonic universe when the collective play at ALICE this September!
