Trio Terrea AU/IR + KØLSTER x AKELA DK

Classical chamber music meets microtonal sounds, Persian traditions and musical echoes from the punk underground

What happens when classical chamber music meets microtonal sounds, Persian traditions and musical echoes from the punk underground? ALICE invites you to an evening with Trio Terrea and KØLSTER x AKELA, two ensembles exploring the classical ensemble format in their own distinctive ways. With a custom-built 31-tone keyboard, Trio Terrea explores new harmonic possibilities, while the award-winning string quartet AKELA interprets the musical universe of Sune Kølster, ranging from Arabic-inspired orchestral music to the soundtrack for the American thriller Speak No Evil (2024). Join us at ALICE to round off the season with this powerful double bill.

Trio Terrea
Violin, cello and microtonal keyboard open up new sonic worlds as Trio Terrea embarks on a musical excursion through Persian traditions and European art music. Led by Iranian pianist Amir Ahmadi, the ensemble’s sound is shaped by the custom-built 31-tone Claviton keyboard—an instrument whose alternative tuning systems unlock entirely new harmonic possibilities. Together with violinist Sarvin Hazin and cellist Anna Maria Niemiec, Ahmadi creates a fluid sound world where classical traditions meet experimental contemporary music. Expect a concert full of magical details, depth and surprising timbres with Trio Terrea.

KØLSTER x AKELA
The award-winning string quartet AKELA performs music by acclaimed film composer Sune Kølster. His work and inspirations span Copenhagen’s punk underground in the late 1990s, where he was part of the legendary band Guddommelig Galskab, Greek rembetiko trance, and classical orchestral music with Arabic influences. Most recently, he has become known for the soundtrack to the American thriller Speak No Evil (2024). In AKELA’s hands, Kølster’s compositions become a set that is at once beautiful, captivating and unsettling.

AKELA consists of violinists Clara Glasdam and Gustav Ranum, violist Kirsten Wilbrandt Kjær, and cellist Oskar Reuben Friis-Hansen. The quartet was formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2019 and has since arranged and performed concerts in a wide variety of formats—from interdisciplinary events with open stages and classical quartet performances in prestigious concert halls to side-by-side concerts with emerging musical talent. In 2024, AKELA received the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize, and in 2023, all four members were awarded the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Talent Prize.
