Founded in Osaka in 1981 by sisters Naoko and Atsuko, Shonen Knife has maintained their cult status as one of the most colorful and original acts on the international underground scene. Praised by artists like Sonic Youth and Nirvana – with Kurt Cobain counting himself as one of their biggest fans – the trio has left a significant mark on alternative rock. Cobain once described their shows as magical moments that could turn anyone into an excited fan. Shonen Knife’s unstoppable live energy, infectious humor, and vast, lively catalog have captivated fans for decades, featuring everything from thrashy garage rock and catchy Ramones covers to offbeat hits like “Tortoise Brand Pot Cleaner.”
