Aynur TR/KU

Beloved Kurdish folk icon gives rare Danish concert

Aynur Doğan is one of the most iconic and influential figures in Kurdish cultural heritage today. With a voice that moves deeply and an artistic weight that reaches far beyond borders, she has for decades built bridges between deeply rooted folk traditions and modern, global sounds – resulting in an expression that is both timeless and profoundly personal. We are honoured to present Aynur as she takes the stage at Amager Bio this November in collaboration with ALICE.

NOTE: Ticket sales open Wednesday May 6 at 10:00. The concert is seated and takes place at Amager Bio.

Over the course of her 25-year career, Aynur has reshaped the musical landscape by blending deeply rooted Kurdish folk traditions with contemporary Western sounds. Her interpretations of Kurdish and Alevi traditions are carried by a rare artistic integrity, where every note resonates with history, longing, and resilience. At the same time, she opens up this tradition, making it feel both timeless and relevant to a global audience.

Aynur’s artistic range is reflected in her many collaborations with internationally renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Kayhan Kalhor, and NDR Big Band, as well as she has played at Roskilde Festival’s Orange Stage with the Danish act Den Sorte Skole. In these constellations, she unfolds her voice in new contexts, showing how tradition can remain a living, evolving form. Her musical journey has also been portrayed in acclaimed documentaries and praised by leading international media. With awards such as the WOMEX Artist Award and the Master of Mediterranean Music Award, Aynur has been recognised not only for her artistry, but also for her enduring commitment to preserving and renewing a cultural heritage under pressure. When she takes the stage, it is with an almost magnetic presence that gathers the audience into a shared, deeply felt experience. We are proud to present a rare concert with Aynur at Amager Bio this November in collaboration with ALICE.

“It is for her long-term dedication to the preservation and innovation of Kurdish and Alevi culture, for maintaining the highest artistic integrity in the face of political pressure and, in doing so, for being a model for all that sing against the silencers, that Aynur Doğan is a very worthy recipient of the WOMEX 21 Artist Award.” – WOMEX 2021

“She is a reason to love live music for centuries” – Javier Limòn
