Park Jiha KR

Classical minimalism and traditional Korean instruments unite in dazzlingly beautiful, cinematic compositions

Classical minimalism meets traditional Korean folk music and improvisation in Park Jiha’s deeply personal sonic universe. For several years, we have been looking forward to experiencing the acclaimed Korean composer and musician, ever since her concert at ALICE was cancelled in 2018. Now we can finally welcome her, as she fills our concert hall this April with her singular, expansive compositions—presenting her latest album All Living Things (Glitterbeat Records, 2025).

“The beauty of Jiha’s work lies in the spaces she leaves” – The Guardian

Park Jiha has made a strong international impression with her complex and captivating sound world. Drawing on traditional Korean instruments such as the piri (double-reed bamboo flute), saenghwang (bamboo mouth organ), and yanggeum (hammered dulcimer), she weaves together classical minimalism, improvisation, and Korean musical heritage into a contemporary and uncompromising expression. With great precision and an acute sense of detail, she creates music that balances fragility and grandeur—resulting in a sound that is unmistakably her own.

On her fourth album, All Living Things, released last year on the influential label Glitterbeat Records, Park Jiha expands her artistic vision even further. Here, her technical mastery and deeply personal compositions merge with modern sonic approaches to form a shimmering, meditative soundscape. Labels such as post-classical, ambient, or cinematic only begin to describe the essence of the music. Equally vital are the pauses and silences, which Jiha uses deliberately to create space for reflection and presence. We look forward to finally experiencing Park Jiha at ALICE this April—a concert we have been waiting a long time for.
