Lauren Duffus UK + Hasfeldt

Orchestral and Danceable Compositions from fast-growing electronic musician

Somewhere between the orchestral and the danceable, the grandiose and the delicate, you’ll find the electronic DIY musician Lauren Duffus. This unique British artist has crafted a sound that feels equally at home in an opera house as on a nightclub dancefloor – and on the spectrum in between, like the stage at ALICE. Before Lauren Duffus, Danish multidisciplinary artist Hasfeldt will open the evening with his ghostly and blissful electronic compositions.

Lauren Duffus
It all began during lockdown. With a makeshift home setup at her parents’ house, Lauren Duffus started experimenting with the music production software Logic. From there, things took off: she uploaded her tracks to SoundCloud, released music on Body Motion Records, then AD93, joined the talent development program at NTS Radio, and later this year, the electronic DIY artist will release a double EP on the indie label AMF Records. Alongside artists like Jawnino, Florence Sinclair, and Iceboy Violet, Lauren Duffus represents a new wave of exciting British electronic musicians.

Among her earlier releases, the single “Habits” stands out. As Duffus herself describes it, the song is about regret, frustration, and trying to explode gracefully. A tender yet chopped-up track, woven together with fluttering choral samples. It’s a composition that may carry a mournful expression but still makes you want to dance: “Habits” was even featured in a performance with dancers from London’s Royal Opera House, organized by British Vogue. Lauren Duffus’ work moves fluidly between the orchestral and the danceable, the grandiose and the fragile. She has performed at the electronic festival MUTEK in Argentina and graced iconic nightlife venues such as Fabric, Village Underground, and Colour Factory in her hometown of London. We can’t wait to dance along when this unique electronic musician visits ALICE this spring!

Hasfeldt
Danish artist Martin Jon Hasfeldt operates in the spaces between art forms – between visual art, performance, and music production. Under the musical alias Hasfeldt, he has performed in venues more and less sacred – such as Roskilde Cathedral and Mayhem. The electronic musician is set to release his debut album, ‘If You Ever Need Me,’ this February on the much-hyped Copenhagen-based label REAL LIVE (which is curating a CLUB night at ALICE in March). Hasfeldt’s electronic sound is both clublike and ambient. It feels like a haunting, it’s nostalgic and searching, like an epic quest. We’re looking forward to experiencing his music live at ALICE!
