Grande Mahogany FI/GH + Sylvie’s Head

Vital funk riffs and irresistible psych-tinged grooves from a charismatic multi-talent

Grande Mahogany makes funk relevant in 2026! With one foot firmly planted in the genre’s golden era and the other in today’s boundary-pushing expressions, he breathes new life into funk, making it raw, playful, and deeply personal. We’re excited to present Grande Mahogany when he takes over ALICE this March with his first Danish concert ever. Sylvie’s Head plays a set of their party-ready rock’n’roll dance music to start with.

Imagine the love child of Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone, and legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins – that’s Grande Mahogany. Behind the alias is singer and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Essel, who has Ghanaian roots, was born and raised in Finland, and emigrated with his family to Manchester at the age of 11. There, he absorbed the city’s musical energy and DIY ethos, shaped equally by funk’s pioneers and Manchester’s own legacy of grime and alternative club culture. The result is a sound that lovingly nods to the past with funky basslines, wah-wah guitars, and soulful, ecstatic vocals, while remaining unmistakably contemporary.

In 2024, Grande Mahogany released his debut album As Grande As via Laundry Music – an impressive first statement from a distinctly DIY artist. Nearly the entire album was written and produced by Essel himself, and he also took charge of the visual identity, music videos, and outfits, creating a fully realized artistic universe where nothing is left to chance. The album was met with widespread acclaim and praised by both critics and leading international media and platforms. Among others, The Needle Drop, Colours, The Line of Best Fit, and Sleeping On Gems have highlighted Grande Mahogany as an artist to watch. Most recently, As Grande As was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Award at the Finnish Grammy Awards. Live, Grande Mahogany has truly cemented his reputation as an unmissable act. A busy festival summer in 2024 culminated in a packed performance closing the Balloon Stage at Flow Festival, where long queues of eager listeners were left outside as the stage reached capacity. That’s why we can’t wait to welcome Grande Mahogany to ALICE this March with his first Danish concert ever.

Sylvie’s Head
“Sylvie’s Head is a band happening now.”

The Swedish band Sylvie’s Head creates a sound that feels both familiar and entirely new – nostalgic, yet firmly pointed toward the future. Moving effortlessly between hard breakbeats, chainsaw guitars, Balearic house euphoria and dubbed-out rock chaos, the band has quickly established itself as a name to watch. Their debut EP “Sharp Shooter” and a 2025 cover of the legendary Psychic TV track “Godstar” cemented their party-ready rock’n’roll dance music and earned them a nomination for “Best in Rock” at the Manifest Awards 2026. When Sylvie’s Head open the night for Grande Mahogany, it will also mark their very first concert in Denmark.
