Ghetto Kumbé (CO) + Nuri (TN) at Valby Kulturhus

Global bass

Ghetto Kumbé is the meeting in Bogotá of 3 great Colombian musicians from the Caribbean coast. A combo of wizards’ singers and percussionists calling the public all around the world to join their digital rumba. Their transcendent ritual is made with a powerful base of percussion, Caribbean house beats and traditional afro Colombian rythmes inspired from west Africa. After three succesful EPs they finally released their full length debut in 2020, where they should also have performed at ALICE – a show that was sadly cancelled due to lockdown. But good things come to those who wait, and now Ghetto Kumbé are finally ready to bring their ecstatic dance party to Copenhagen when they perform at Valby Kulturhus. The expectations are high after their overwhelming show at Roskilde Festival in 2019, so make sure to get your tickets early.

To make this dance night even greater, we have also invited Tunesian artist Nuri, whose masked face and trance inducing music has started parties at ALICE several times. Nuri is one of the upcoming promising musicians of African futurism, mixing deep bass, organic percussion with poly rhythmic grooves, sharing bills with names like Clap Clap and Dengue Dengue Dengue. In 2017, he released his debut album on Shouka, a label focusing on traditional music and contemporary electronic from North Africa and beyond. ‘’Drup’’ is a tribute to Tunisian’s African heritage, and a bridge to other traditions, replete with percussion and vocals from all over the mother continent, combined with digital work to constitute an amalgam of then and now. Like Ghetto Kumbé, Nuri performed at Roskilde Festival 2019 and we’re looking forward to experiencing his music in Valby!
