Bruno Berle BR

Brazilian shooting star brings lo-fi bossa nova, featherlight indie pop and an all-star live band to ALICE

With a voice of pure gold and a featherlight, deeply sensitive take on samba and bossa nova, Bruno Berle has emerged as one of the leading names in a new wave of Brazilian artists reimagining the country’s legendary musical traditions for a new generation. Following a sold-out, goosebump-inducing performance at ALICE in 2024, the Roskilde Festival featured singer returns this autumn with a brand-new album, an exceptional group of collaborators from Brazil’s vibrant Northeastern music scene, and Nordic guest musicians, including acclaimed Swedish soul singer Diane Emerita.

Bruno Berle is one of the defining figures of Brazil’s new generation of Northeastern artists. Alongside names such as Bala Desejo, Zé Ibarra and Ana Frango Elétrico, the composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist is gently expanding the boundaries of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) — the influential movement that emerged in the 1960s, blending traditional Brazilian genres like samba and bossa nova with pop, jazz and rock. Berle’s sound is delicate and lo-fi; dreamy in atmosphere, emotionally rich in its vocals and rhythmically intricate. Rooted in Brazilian traditions, his music effortlessly weaves together indie pop and subtle electronic textures.

Berle hails from the coastal city of Maceió in the northeastern state of Alagoas, where a close-knit artistic community including Batata Boy, Phylipe Nunes and Nyron Higor (who played a sold-out show at ALICE earlier this year) has been instrumental to his musical development. His breakthrough came with the 2022 album No Reino Dos Afetos, a collection of tender love songs and warm, homemade productions that earned international acclaim and comparisons to João Gilberto, Djavan and Frank Ocean. This autumn, Berle returns with his third studio album, led by the heartfelt first single Não Posso Viver Sem Você. To celebrate the release, he embarks on a new tour, bringing his all-star creative community to ALICE: producer and longtime collaborator Batata Boy, bassist and composer Nyron Higor, and two Nordic guest musicians, including the outstanding Swedish soul singer Diane Emerita. Get ready for a spectacular celebration of contemporary Brazilian music when Bruno Berle returns to ALICE this September.
