Alto Aria
Behind the artist name Alto Aria stands Danish singer and composer Aria Leth Schütze. With this project, they explore the relationship between acoustic and electronic sound, weaving classical elements together with electronic beats – all held together by their ethereal voice. Recently, they have released a series of double singles on Posh Isolation, and now they are ready with the full length album ‘Ephemeral’. This will be celebrated with a release concert at ALICE, accompanied by Mads Krue Bugge on synthesizer and Mark Ibsgaard Gregersen on double bass.
‘Ephemeral’ is based on a poem written by Aria Leth Schütze, inspired by sonnets and the place where it was written: Berlin, where Aria Leth Schütze lived for a period. The album tells stories of falling in love, keeping the heart open, and holding on to a fleeting moment. Collaboration has been central to the creation of ‘Ephemeral’, with Space Afrika contributing strings and field recordings to the album. They will also be performing at the concert evening, where we celebrate the fact that ‘Ephemeral’ is finally out in the world!
Space Afrika
The duo Space Afrika are redefining the landscape of electronic music. Their sound draws on a wide range of references, from UK dance, ambient, trip-hop, pop, modern classical, and more experimental genres. Behind the duo are producers, composers, and visual artists Josh Inyang and Joshua Tarelle Reid, both from Manchester and affiliated with the British label Warp Records. Their music is full of detail and surprise – much like the duo themselves, who refuse to be tied to a single musical genre or artistic form of expression.
Space Afrika have two critically acclaimed albums behind them: ‘Somewhere Decent to Live’ (2018) and ‘Honest Labour’ (2021), the latter reaching the top of Resident Advisor’s list of best albums of the year, as well as receiving nominations from DJ Mag for both Best Live Act and Best Album. The duo have performed at major venues and festivals across Europe and North America, from Gladstone Gallery in New York to Southbank Centre in London and Atonal in Berlin. In addition, Space Afrika composed the music for ‘Pacific Club’, a short documentary by Valentin Noujaïm, which premiered at CPH:DOX in 2023 and received a special mention from the jury in the New:Vision category. They have also (as part of the 54 collective) created an immersive sound installation for the arts institution Factory International.
