Night Journeys: Mark William Lewis UK

Moving and atmospheric folk rock from hyped musician in Dean Blunt’s orbit

Loosely associated with Dean Blunt and his label, World Music Group, London-based musician Mark William Lewis is known for his dreamy and longing sound and existential lyricism.

“Sort of a sad cowboy music.” That’s how NTS radio host Flo Dill recently described the music of Mark William Lewis. The hyped British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer is recognized for his dreamy sound, sitting comfortably at the crossroads of folk, rock, and pop. Linked to Dean Blunt and his label, World Music Group, Lewis now brings his band to ALICE.

“There’s so much violence / So much fucking stress.” On his latest album ‘Living’ (2023), Mark William Lewis sings in a sparse, whispering, almost creaking voice about the ambivalence of existence — about life and death, ecstasy and pain, intimacy and isolation. He weaves these themes together with yearning guitar tones and harmonica. In the darkness of the concert hall, you can lean back and let yourself be drawn into the atmospheric and moving sonic world of Mark William Lewis.
