Jupiter & Okwess’s dizzying music and explosive live energy have set venues and festivals ablaze worldwide, turning audiences into cheering, dancing fans for over a decade. The band’s enigmatic frontman, Jupiter, hails from Kinshasa but spent his teenage years in East Berlin in the 1970s before returning to Congo in his twenties. Together with his band Okwess, Jupiter creates an almost cosmic sound, drawing equally from industrial urban beats, gritty rock, and traditional Congolese rhythms. The sound reflects a band that is eternally curious and constantly seeking new connections between Congo’s myriad music traditions and contemporary experiments from around the world.

Jupiter & Okwess have enriched numerous collaborations, including Damon Albarn’s Africa Express project, and have also toured as the opening act for Blur. However, the band has toured extensively in its own right around the world at an impressive pace. From England to Mexico via Japan, New Zealand, and France, their explosive, energy-filled live shows leave an unforgettable impression.
