Ida Urd & Ingri Høyland regard music as an extension of the immediate, sensory space around them. “Duvet” was created in a winter-clad summer house by the coast—surrounded by snow-covered gardens, sea mist, and shimmering stillness. Here, the two composers shaped a work that revolves around nesting as both movement and state: creating a sense of safety amid change, moving a table toward the light, gathering flowers, opening a window, finding home within the temporary. Through a quiet and attentive compositional process, the music becomes a soft architecture—a space for play, writing, caregiving, and rest.
Sonically, “Duvet” balances abstraction and melody. Wordless voices, breathing, rustling textures, and glimpses of Ida Urd’s electric bass are interwoven with electronic modules, wind instruments, and electroacoustic tones. Co-producer and mixer Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen (Vanessa Amara) has, with a gentle hand, added depth and warmth—often through analogue tape machines that lend the music a particular glow. Both artists are graduates of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and have, over several years, refined a shared method grounded in trust and presence, where composing becomes a form of conversation—suggesting, listening, and saying yes. The music unfolds as a delicate weaving of moods, thoughts, and textures. Come and experience it live when Ida Urd & Ingri Høyland perform “Duvet” at ALICE.
