Ava Rocha BR

Charming samba and bossa with a pop-infused edge from singular Brazilian artist

Drawing on the warmth of samba and bossa alongside Western pop and rock influences, Ava Rocha has crafted a deeply personal and idiosyncratic singer-songwriter sound. For nearly two decades, the Brazilian musician, performer, and filmmaker has captivated audiences around the world and even earned a place on Iggy Pop’s personal playlist on BBC Radio 6 Music. We are delighted to welcome her to ALICE this October for her first-ever concert in Denmark.

As one of the defining voices of Brazil’s alternative music scene, Ava Rocha has spent the past decade developing a uniquely personal artistic universe spanning music, visual art, performance, and film. Rooted in samba, bossa, and broader Latin American musical traditions, her warm, dramatic voice meets echoes of Western pop and rock as she moves effortlessly between genres and experimental forms. The result is a visually surreal, glittering world where sequins, theatricality, and fearless creativity go hand in hand.

Rocha has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, most recently the Thiago Nassif and Jonas Sá-produced NEKTAR (2023), which earned praise from outlets including The New York Times, NPR, and Sounds and Colours. Her distinctive songs have also caught the attention of punk icon Iggy Pop, who featured her music on his BBC Radio 6 Music show. Her live performances often transcend the traditional concert format, unfolding as immersive, multidisciplinary works where sound, movement, text, and visual elements merge into an intense, humorous, and deeply engaging experience. Ava Rocha has performed extensively throughout Brazil and internationally, with appearances in the USA, China, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Portugal, Germany, Peru, and Uruguay. This October, she finally makes her Danish debut at ALICE, arriving with new music and a brand-new album.
