Aïta Mon Amour consists of Moroccan rap pioneer Widad Mjama and Khalil Epi, a prominent figure on the Arab electronic music scene. Together, they reinterpret the centuries-old aïta tradition — a raw and poetic rural blues carried by the chikhates, who have historically been strong and independent female singers. The duo’s debut album Abda draws inspiration from Morocco’s Abda region, where the aïta tradition has deep roots. Here, Widad Mjama’s powerful vocals and rhythmic spoken word intertwine with Khalil Epi’s richly detailed productions of pulsating electronics, heavy basslines, and organic textures. Together, they create an intense and sensual musical experience where tradition is not preserved in stasis, but brought vividly into the present.
Historically, aïta has served as a voice for society’s overlooked and marginalized communities, and it is precisely this rebellious and emancipatory spirit that the duo carries forward with remarkable conviction. On stage, Aïta Mon Amour unfolds a captivating universe where trance-inducing rhythms, poetry, and club energy merge into a concert experience charged with both political urgency and emotional depth. Since the release of Abda, the duo has performed more than 80 concerts worldwide and received widespread acclaim for their distinctive sound. This September, audiences can experience Aïta Mon Amour’s compelling live performance at ALICE.
