Azizzi Romeo JM & Guiding Star Orchestra

Jamaican roots reggae with deep riddims, a rich legacy, and visionary lyrics

Azizzi Romeo brings the legacy of Jamaican roots reggae into the present when he takes the stage at ALICE this October, performing a live dub set with members of the Copenhagen-based all-star ensemble Guiding Star Orchestra. On his debut album, Signs Of The Time, Romeo fuses the classic roots sound of the 1970s with modern production, spiritual depth, and an unwavering message of peace, togetherness, and hope in turbulent times.

Raised in Linstead, Jamaica, Azizzi Romeo grew up as the son of roots reggae legend Max Romeo. Music has been part of his life from the very beginning, and at just eight years old he stepped onto the stage as lead singer of the duo Rominal alongside his brother. He later toured internationally with his father before forging his own artistic path. Today, Azizzi Romeo moves effortlessly between the conscious roots reggae tradition and a contemporary sound shaped by electronic textures and introspective songwriting.

With his debut album Signs Of The Time, released just ahead of his concert at ALICE, Azizzi Romeo fully emerges as an artist in his own right. The songs are driven by warm grooves, signature basslines, and a heartfelt desire to bring people together in an increasingly divided world. Joined by Guiding Star Orchestra – featuring, among others, Morten McCoy (Bremer/McCoy) and Steve Borth II (chllngr) – the music honours reggae’s golden era while looking firmly towards the future. Adding an especially poignant dimension, the album also features one of Max Romeo’s very last recorded vocal performances before his passing. Get ready for an evening of deep riddims and reggae with a beating heart when Azizzi Romeo and members from Guiding Star Orchestra perform a live dub set at ALICE this October.
