Born in Barranquilla on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, Lido Pimienta has, over the course of a 15-year career, become an artistic voice dedicated to rethinking identity, belonging, and cultural heritage. Her breakthrough came with the 2017 album La Papessa, which fused DIY attitude, alternative electronica, and Afro-Colombian traditions. The album received the prestigious Polaris Music Prize and established Pimienta as one of the most compelling voices on the international music scene. She continued her artistic evolution with the critically acclaimed Miss Colombia (2020), where cumbia, dembow, chamber music, and electropop provide the framework for a deeply personal reflection on beauty standards, colonial structures, and life as a Caribbean woman with Wayuu roots. When the world shut down in 2020, Pimienta immersed herself in classical music and went on to compose Lux Aeterna for the New York City Ballet, becoming the first woman of colour ever to compose for the company.

On her forthcoming album Caribenya, due for release in July, Lido Pimienta brings together all the threads of her artistic journey so far. Lush orchestration, floating ambient textures, pop sensibility, and pulsating Caribbean rhythms converge in a work that celebrates both her Afro-Latin and Afro-Indigenous heritage while looking sharply toward the future.
