Shida Shahabi SE/IR – SOLD OUT

Atmospheric, gentle, and ambient piano compositions from Iranian-Swedish shooting star

With her atmospheric, gentle, and ambient piano compositions, and her ability to blend the traditional with the modern, Shida Shahabi has rapidly risen to the stars in recent years despite her young age. The talented Iranian-Swedish pianist and composer is currently releasing her second solo album on Fatcat Records, and this March, we have the honor of presenting her in the beautiful space of Brorsons Kirke, accompanied by cello.

NOTE: Doors open at 7 PM, music starts at 8 PM. The concert takes place at Brorsons Kirke

The Iranian-Swedish composer and pianist Shida Shahabi is a musician who, in just a few years, has become a household name, already solidifying herself with her unique sound despite her young age. She is known for her atmospheric classical-electronic piano compositions that are both gentle and captivating, playing with elements of drone and ambient and often beautifully accompanied by the melancholic tones of the cello.

Growing up surrounded by Persian 70s pop, MTV, classical works, and music-loving parents paved Shida Shahabi’s own path into art and music. Born in Stockholm in 1989, she was only eleven years old when she first started experimenting with her own compositions. During her studies at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, she focused exclusively on sound-related art, and since then, she has created site-specific sound installations, played in various bands, and worked with various forms of music. Shida Shahabi’s sensitive understanding of the intersection of music with other art forms has also made her a sought-after theater and film composer. She has contributed soundtracks to short films such as “Lake on Fire” (2020) and “Alvaret” (2021), as well as feature films like “Lovely, Dark and Deep” (2023) and notably the award-winning “Falcon Lake” (2022).

In 2018, Shida Shahabi released her debut album, “Homes,” which was praised by BBC Radio’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson, among others. After two outstanding EPs and numerous collaborations, Shahabi is now presenting her second album, “Living Circle” (Fatcat Records, 2023) – a carefully balanced blend of classical and electronic elements. The album’s deeply atmospheric, gentle, and captivating piano compositions are rich in texture and permeated with a low-frequency warmth. Simple sustained piano chords merge with elements of drone and ambient, beautifully complemented by melancholic cello tones. It is music that touches the soul and offers a brief escape from reality. In March, we are proud to present Shida Shahabi accompanied by cello in the beautiful space of Brorsons Church.
