The Australian Julia Reidy was in a review by Boomcat compared to artists such as Hope Sandoval, John Fahey, Jim O’Rourke, and Talk Talk. These broad comparisons speak to the fact that first and foremost, her sound is completely her own. Reidy’s recent recorded work — brace, brace (Slip 2019,) In Real Life (Black Truffle 2019), and Vanish (Editions Mego 2020) is a series of non-traditional song forms that combine unstable harmonic territories, rhythmic elasticity, and abstract narrative over stretched, episodic forms.
The duo Zoe Efstathiou / Egil Kalman, based in Sweden and Denmark, inhabits an intresting space between electronic and acoustic as well. Prepared piano and contrabass melts together with modular synths in an intimate, nuanced, and surprising soundscape. The duo has previously released two excellent albums together, and have performed at events and venues such as Nordic Music Days, Samtida Musik Stockholm, Blow Out, Nylyd Skien, and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. We look forward to adding ALICE Summer Series to the list!
Practical info about ALICE Summer Series
Under the headline ALICE Summer Series, we present open-air concerts Fridays and Saturdays from May and throughout August. We’ve moved the bar outside as well, and we make sure to follow all current COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Luckily, recent changes in the restrictions allow our guests to stand during the concerts – though we’ve of course made sure there are plenty of benches in the yard so you can rest your legs. Food from our friends at Send Flere Krydderier will be available, and the courtyard opens at 4pm, so stop by early for a beer and a chat in the sun.
Please note that a valid corona passport is required to enter the courtyard. We recommend you purchase a ticket in advance as this makes it easier for us to contact you regarding infection tracking. Please also note that we accept credit card and MobilePay at the bar, but not cash.
