Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi & Eric Thielemans (INT)

Minimalism and experimental electronic

As a consequence of the widespread situation with Corona virus/COVID-19 and the prohibitions from the Danish authorities to close all cultural institutions until May 10, the concert with Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi & Eric Thielemans has sadly been cancelled. Tickets will be refunded via Billetto. Please stay tuned on updates about ALICE and the Corona virus situation here.

In October 2013, Charlemagne Palestine, Mika Vainio and Eric Thielemans got together for the first time, meeting each other at Les Ateliers Claus in Brussels, for a 4 day residency and 2 live performances. The music of the residency takes, edited by Thielemans, mixed and mastered by Frederic Allstadt, will be released April 7th 2020 on Godbear (Charlemagne Palestine’s archival music label). For the occasion of this release a brand new trio will see the light. Oren Ambarchi (electric guitar) will join Charlemagne Palestine (piano, voice) and Eric Thielemans (drums) on stage for a new trio collaboration and creation with live performances starting in April 2020. In collaboration with Gong Tomorrow ALICE is excited to present the all star trio when they perform at Sankt Johannes Gården on May 7th. The concert is seated.

Please Note: The ticket for this concert also counts for the concert with Chouk Bwa & The Ångstromers, who will perform on the same night at 9pm at ALICE. More info here.

Charlemagne Palestine

A seminal figure in American avantgarde music, composer, visual artist, and performer, Charlemagne Palestine is globally renowned for his loud, percussive, cascading drones on piano and carillon bells in epic-length concerts. He is among the most enigmatic personalities to have emerged from the New York vanguard art scene of the 1960s and ‘70s. He is often regarded as a peer of minimalist composers such as Terry Riley and LaMonte Young. Palestine played a marvelous improvised organ concert at last years ALICE Spectacle festival.

Oren Ambarchi

Oren Ambarchi is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and musical polymath who has been releasing records with the frequency of someone who prefers studio time to sleep. His remarkably prolific and diverse oeuvre since the 90’s has included releases such as Grapes From The Estate (2004), Audience Of One & Sagittarian Domain (both 2012), Quixotism (2014) & Hubris (2016). A voracious collaborator and musical explorer Ambarchi has worked with an endless stream of notable artists including Alvin Lucier, Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke, Ricardo Villalobos and many more.

Eric Thielemans

Eric Thielemans, a genre crossing/blending percussionist with a classically trained ear has worked his way via jazz drumming and free improvisation towards his own realms in Music & Performance. Because of a wide range of interests, in music as in other fields of the arts and sciences, he seems to have come to see his percussion instruments as vehicles with which to travel outwards to other registers and spheres, often in collaboration and dialogue with a diversity of writers, scientists, visual artists, academics, et al. For the past couple of years he has been focusing on the development of a body of solo works, challenging the borders of percussion. His first acclaimed solo work a Snare is a Bell was released on vinyl in 2007 by the Antwerp based label Ultra Eczema (UE49). Eric Thielemans has worked with legendary drummer Billy Hart, Sun Ra Archestra’s Marshall Allen, visual artist duo Arocha-Schraenen and many more.
