The Montreal based string quartet Quatuor Bozzini visits Denmark for the first time and will be performing Sarah Davachis Long Gradus and Niels Lyhne Løkkegaards Colliding Bubbles (surface tension and release) -both pieces commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and now performed for the first time in DK. The concert is presented in collaboration between Brorsons Kirke, Polychrome and ALICE.
‘Long Gradus’ is study of just intonation composed by Canadian experimental musician and composer Sarah Davachi and Colliding Bubbles (surface tension and release) is a string quartet and a harmonica quartet, meaning that the members of the quartet will play string instruments while playing harmonica.
Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard about Colliding Bubbles:
“The title refers to the different kinds of bubbly matters which are set to collide within the composition, leading to different ruptures and possible release of surface tension.
The collision of bubbles will unfold partly in relation to sound, where small fluctuations will appear in the encounters between harmonicas and string instruments and partly in relation to a more performative or conceptual bubble where instruments representing different systems, or bubbles, will collide; the very celebrated instruments within the classical string quartet and the perhaps more prosaic harmonica.”
About Quatour Bozzini
Quatuor Bozzini has been an original voice and strong advocate in new, experimental and classical music since 1999. Driving the hyper-creative Montréal scene and beyond, the quartet cultivates an ethos of risk-taking, experimentation, and collaboration, venturing boldly off the beaten track. With a rigorous eye for quality, they have nurtured a rich and diverse repertoire, regardless of trends. This has led to over 400 commissioned pieces, and some 500 premiered works. Their open, collaborative, artist-led approach has resulted in the realisation of numerous innovative and highly-praised productions, including inter-disciplinary projects with video, theatre and dance. Praised by its “intense musicality and immense sensitivity” (Musicworks, Canada), Quatuor Bozzini was qualified in the Bandcamp Daily as “one of the most daring string quartets of the entire world.”
