Valentina Magaletti IT + Lau Andersson

Rituelle og trancedannende forløb på slagtøj og elektronik

Valentina Magaletti creates ritualistic and trance-inducing journeys through collages of drones, field recordings, and percussion. Following a great concert at ALICE last year with her trio Holy Tongue, the talented percussionist, just announced for Roskilde Festival, returns, this time with her solo project. Lau Andersson opens the night with a set.

The visionary percussionist, composer, and drummer Valentina Magaletti has long been one of the most hyped names in experimental circles. She has a unique ability to adapt her excellent playing to everything from avant-garde, electronic music, psychedelia, and jazz, working from an endlessly curious listening and experimenting with new materials and sounds.

Valentina Magaletti’s wealth of collaborations speaks to her versatility as a musician and composer, with a long list featuring artists such as Nicolas Jaar, Jandek, Graham Lewis (Wire, Dome), Tightpaul Sandra (Coil, Spiritualized, Julian Cope), Thurston Moore, Bat for Lashes, and many more. Additionally, she participates in groups like Vanishing Twin (Fire Records), where she takes a more conventional jazz approach to her playing, in the post-punk band Moin, and in the dark experimental dub trio Holy Tongue, with whom she performed a great concert at ALICE during last year’s Copenhagen Jazz Festival. She was also one half of the duo Tomaga, whose percussion-driven music drew from industrial, psychedelia, and minimalism to jazz and techno. We were fortunate to experience Tomaga at ALICE before the sad passing of the duo’s other half, Tom Relleen, in 2020.

Characteristic of Magaletti’s solo projects is her ability to create ritualistic and trance-inducing journeys through collages of drones, field recordings, and percussion, as heard in her latest release, “A Queer Anthology of Drums” (2022). Now, we can look forward to experiencing the Italian star percussionist when she performs at ALICE in April.

Lau Andersson
Composer and accordionist Lau Andersson, together with cellist Markus Tange, will perform an excerpt from his upcoming project “The Weeping Siege” – a sonic journey through repetitive hymns and circular motifs, exploring the borderland between digital and organic spheres. The music explores themes of grief, loss, faith, obsession, and devotion in a modern blend of folk-inspired improvisation and a heavy gazing into the digital abyss.

ALICE at Stairway
While the concert hall at Nørre Allé 7 is undergoing renovation, ALICE is located at the music venue Stairway in Vanløse.
