RP Boo a.k.a. Kavain Space is a man who is revered and respected amongst the dance music cognoscenti. He’s cited as the father of Footwork – the fast, repetitive, rhythmically syncopated music and dance style that’s a grandchild of the 1990s Chicago house and which has developed ever since, dance and beats side by side. RP Boo was a dancer himself before he started producing. His footwork has been brought to the wider world via releases from record label Planet Mu and others, alongside internet archaeology from fans, experts and enthusiasts. Produced using a Roland R-70 drum machine and an Akai S01 digital sampler, RP Boo’s tracks are filled with banging beats, hectic high hats, bass and mosaics of samples that make you wanna dance. When he played a sold out show at ALICE in 2018, the venue turned into an ecstatic nightclub – one of the greatest shows that year. We can’t wait to have him back this May.
Smokey
Simone Øster aka Smokey is a Copenhagen-based DJ with a well-cultivated appetite for a proper party and an on-point aesthetic to match. Emerging from renowned techno squad Apeiron Crew, as a solo artist she’s more focused on off-kilter rhythms, bass, breaks, electro, jungle, ghetto tech and more. Having been heavily involved in the music and culture scene in Copenhagen for the past decade, Smokey has high standards when it comes to fun. She enters the room with an attitude of ‘get weird or go home’, and her sets reflect that; her humorous and upbeat attitude radiates from her, whether from behind the decks or on the dancefloor. But when she plays, don’t expect sunshine and rainbows. Her selection goes heavy and will undoubtedly smack you in the face with something deep and evil. Smokey will play a support set before RP Boo.
