Multi-award winning group Monsieur Doumani, was formed in 2011 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Coming from different musical backgrounds, but influenced by the Cypriot tradition at various levels Monsieur Doumani compose Cypriot songs that draw inspiration from contemporary Cypriot society as well as from the shaky conditions of our era. The original identity of the project was determined by the adaptation of Cypriot traditional pieces, with a special contemporary color in sound and mood, forming a style distinctively their own. This distinct style has made the trio a critic’s favourite and they were awarded as ‘Best Group’ in Songlines Music Awards 2019. The same year the band did a terrific concert in Copenhagen at ALICE’s Spectacle festival. Now they are back. This time with a career defining record that pushes their trademark sound into new weird territory. With “Pissourin” (released on Glitterbeat in September) they take their Mediterranean sonics into a deep psychedelic and avant-folk direction. A danceable fever storm of stringed instruments, multi-layered singing and trombone-driven low end. We can’t wait to experience them live at Musikhuset.
