It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by Iceboy Violet’s thunderous, experimental, and rhythmically sporadic rap music, which weaves influences from grime, noise, and hip-hop together with emotional vocals and outstanding, personal lyricism. For the acclaimed Manchester rapper, music serves as a therapeutic space for escapism, where they seek to achieve personal and collective catharsis with the audience through raw, performative energy on stage.
Iceboy Violet is a crucial part of Manchester’s experimental underground scene, centered around The White Hotel. They have not only performed countless concerts there but have also been in the audience for shows featuring like-minded artists such as Klein, Bunny, and Space Africa. The latter collaborated with Iceboy Violet on their critically acclaimed mixtape “The Vanity Project” (2022), which showcases several artists from the Manchester scene. Other collaborators include Rainy Miller and, most recently, Florence Sinclair on their latest album “Not a Dream But a Controlled Explosion” (2023).
Since Iceboy Violet first made waves in Manchester’s club scene, they have released three albums, performed at venues like Berlin Intonal and Rewire, and toured across the UK, Europe, and Asia. In March, they are set to play their first Danish concert at ALICE.
Francesca Burattelli
Italian-born Francesca Burattelli has established herself on the Danish music scene in recent years with her distinctive experimental pop music. Francesca’s unique vocals are the driving force in her electronic universe, where orchestral music, pop, and rap converge with great expressive range. She incorporates the Southern Italian singing tradition into her lyrics and compositions, creating a surreal, dreamlike, and uncanny universe. In the summer of 2022, “Battle Fatigue” was released, produced by Minais B and Aperly High. The album encapsulates Burattelli’s expression in a more pop-oriented sound reminiscent of Björk, Kate Bush, and Eartheater. A new release is coming in 2024, which will feature collaborations with various artists, including Minais B, Xenia Xamanek, CTM, and Melodi Ghazal, and will draw more heavily on Burattelli’s Italian roots.
