Directly from Ghana’s pulsating music scene, Florence Adooni invites you to a dance party of epic proportions on July 10th. The world is just beginning to take notice of this young, talented highlife sensation who fills the dance floor and sets hearts racing wherever she performs. Adooni blends vibrant Afro-gospel and pulsating highlife with pop, jazz, festive brass, and lively backing vocals in infectious music that is impossible to stand still to. During the summer’s Copenhagen Jazz Festival, she takes the stage at ALICE with her 7-piece band. For lovers of highlife, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Under the name “The queen of Frafra gospel,” Florence Adooni is one of the most prominent voices on Ghana’s vital Frafra gospel scene, where groups like Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy have also flourished. Nevertheless, what is truly special about Adooni is her ability to create encounters between tradition and innovation in her highly danceable music.

Adooni connects the life-affirming Frafra gospel with another of Ghana’s strongest and proudest musical traditions: a melodically and rhythmically pulsating highlife, where local Ghanaian traditions are combined with inspirations from pop, rock, and jazz, and not least, plenty of festive brass and lively backing vocals. She herself was born and raised in the Ashanti capital, Kumasi, known as the bubbling epicenter of the highlife genre.

Florence Adooni has released several albums in her home country and collaborated with the Ghanaian kologo virtuoso Guy One, among others. However, it was only in 2021 when she appeared as a guest on the hyped single ‘Vocalize my Luv’ by the Finnish electronica eccentric Jimi Tenor that the rest of the world took notice of her powerful voice. Since then, things have moved quickly for Adooni, who, on her debut tour in 2023, set Roskilde Festival’s Gaia stage in lively motion with an unforgettable concert.
