On this night at ALICE, the two Danish composers Astrid Sonne and Minais B will present a new piece for computer, viola, organ and voice. In “Age og Levelling” they weave together their artistic practices, taking its outset in an ongoing musical interchange with a common interest in harmonies as a means of expression.
Astrid Sonne
Astrid Sonne is a highly acclaimed Copenhagen-based composer and viola player. With a background in classical music, she opens up an electronic space to channel different perceptions of sensory and emotional states of being through open, melodic compositions. Key performances and commissions to date include Berlin Atonal 2018, where she performed her work ‘Ephemeral’ with a choir; and ‘Cycles of Lost and Found’ for strings and electronics, premiered at Rewire Festival 2019.
Sonne released her debut album Human Lines in 2018 and most recently “Cliodynamics” in October 2019, both via the Copenhagen based label Escho. The two releases illustrate the curiosity of Astrid Sonne and bring forward the distinct acoustic/electronic dualism of her creative approach, resulting in a crystal clear musical aesthetic.
Minais B
Minais B is the moniker of Copenhagen-based composer Villads Klint also part of the trio KhalilH2OP and co-founder of the platform Anyines. In his solo project, the composer weaves contrasting musical ideas together into adventurous narratives utilizing organs and synthesizers, danish hymns and arpeggio patterns. At live performances this takes shape with Klint combining the laptop with live organ and synthesizers, steering the project of Minais B in a new, melodic direction.
