First Flush
Since their debut in 2011, First Flush has explored the possibilities of ensemble play. The band’s songs are musical genre collisions, where autotuned poetic lyrics in Danish meet acoustic instruments in unconventional song structures. Over the course of five albums, their development has taken them through breathless post-punk, acoustic folk ballads, and heavy trap, establishing them as a daring modern rock band with roots in the Scandinavian folk tradition and an avant-garde longing. Spira (2028) was hailed as “one of the most original Danish releases of the year” by Politiken and “one of the best Danish releases in recent times” by Undertoner. The quartet’s lyrics, published in the book Rosenkammer by Forlaget Arena in 2018, are atmospheric Danish-language poetry that poses fundamental questions about how to articulate uncertainty, anxiety, hopes, and broken promises in a meaningful way. They were nominated for the Schade Prize in 2018, for Lyricist of the Year at the Steppeulven Awards in 2019, and it has been stated: “First Flush writes some of the best song lyrics in Danish at the moment” (Politiken).
ilinx
Powerful, gentle, grating, screaming. The voices of ilinx can be all of these and create captivating soundscapes in harmony. The vocal group consists of three composers and singers: Anna Mæhl, Laura Marie Madsen, and Amanda Appel, whose backgrounds range from classical music to folk and R’n’B. Since the release of their debut album Memory in 2020, ilinx has been highly acclaimed on the Danish scene and has performed across Europe. The Lake has had the pleasure of collaborating with ilinx several times, and they have often graced the poster at ALICE to the great enthusiasm of the audience—most recently at an ALICE-curated concert at the Copenhagen Opera Festival.
DJ Brevet
The goofy and the demonic, the silly and the profound swirl together when DJ Brevet grabs the microphone, sets off the ‘Party Alarm,’ and invites you to dance. The musical premises smoothly transition from rock and roll to techno, from autotuned keyboard hits from the Solomon Islands to snotty seventh-graders from Ballerup singing about love. It’s all about having fun, hearing the familiar in the unfamiliar, dancing to it, and changing together with others. DJ Brevet hosts the show “DJ Brevets Musikprogram” every Saturday on P6 Beat and the program “Hallo, hvem er det?” on The Lake Radio.
DJ KUCHULU
With a vision to promote inclusion in Copenhagen’s nightlife, DJ, producer, and curator KUCHULU uses sound as their way of expressing dream worlds and fantasies. In temporary genre-bending sceneries created through mixes and KUCHULU’s productions, their Middle Eastern roots meet genres like vogue, house, r&b, and drum’n’bass. KUCHULU will close the evening with a set.
About The Lake Radio
With a curious and persistent effort to curate and spread the knowledge of music from around the world that typically has no place in mainstream radio or public service radio, The Lake has, as a volunteer-driven nonprofit internet radio station since 2014, been an important haven for listeners with an appetite for new sounds. In addition to working with experimental music radio and producing in-depth podcasts – both for the station’s own platform and others – The Lake has also functioned as a curatorial collective, having organized events such as Works for Radio and the festivals Badesøen Festival and By The Lake, as well as covering festivals like Roskilde Festival and Struer Tracks. Come and join the celebration of 10 years with The Lake, and let’s toast to the next 10 years.
