Moodkiller Presents: LA Timpa UK + boli group

Moodkiller presents an evening ranging from subversive classical music and power emo to deconstructed bedroom-pop

Moodkiller presents an evening spanning from the subversive classical music of boli group and power emo to deconstructed bedroom-pop from the hyped London-based artist LA Timpa, who has collaborated with the likes of Tricky, Klein, and Space Afrika. Moodkiller is the name of a series of staged concert events curated by Isa Nam Sook Tind (Ryong), Stine Victoria (FMN), and Joakim Wei Bernild (Angel Wei, First Hate), who together also form the band Haloplus+. Moodkiller takes over ALICE for the second time in May, with DJs spinning tunes between the performances.

LA Timpa
Christopher Soetan, aka LA Timpa, despite his presence on the international scene and collaborations with artists like Tricky, Klein, and Space Afrika, remains relatively unknown domestically. The Nigerian London-based musician, producer, singer, and songwriter creates a mesmerizing blend of deconstructed noise and bedroom-pop, exploring themes such as love, frustration, isolation, and mortality. With his unique sound, LA Timpa appeals to fans of Dean Blunt, Slauson Malone, and the aforementioned Tricky.

LA Timpa was born in Nigeria but moved to Canada in the early 2000s, where he spent his childhood and adolescence surrounded by religion, diverse cultures, suburbs, and a plethora of music, all of which shaped his artistic future. Following his debut release as LA Timpa, the EP “Animal” (2016), he has relentlessly continued to produce albums. His latest, “Pity by One All Good Treasure,” was released last autumn via the record label O___o?, and his fourth album, “Time of Marcker,” is on the way. In 2020, he collaborated on and released the video “Can You See It” with Klein and is the editor and creator of the website asklatimpa.com.

boli group
Led by the Copenhagen-based composer and producer Aase Nielsen, boli group is an ensemble with a changing musical lineup. Aase Nielsen challenges and undermines the conventions of classical music. Micro-genres such as critical regional folk music, evergreens, power emo, SoMe folk, and post-original-bad-mood music are explored in the compositions and materialized into new music.

With a background in Synd & Skam, Brynje 1&2, and a wide range of collaborations including with Dean Blunt, Agnes Hartvig stands behind some of the most fearless and fascinating works to emerge from the Copenhagen and British underground scene in the last 10 years, being as impressive as she is mysterious. boli group has previously released on Anyines and Posh Isolation and most recently “The Jutlandia Quartets” (2021) on the Italian label Haunter Records.
