La Sonora Mazuren is the latest addition to Bogotá’s vibrant tropical psych scene. The charming septet offers a festive eldorado of Latin American popular music, Brazilian tropicalia, and tropical retro-futurism. Accompanied by singers Diana Sanmiguel and Giovanna Mogollón (La Perla) and virtuoso musicians on vintage keyboards, electric guitars, accordion, drums, and Latin percussion, La Sonora Mazuren creates a swinging, danceable music that is impossible to resist. The audience is taken on a whirlwind journey through the golden years of tropicalia to Peru’s psychedelic chichas and African fuzz.
The seven musicians in La Sonora Mazuren are all firmly rooted in the new alternative Bogotá scene, which also includes groups like Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica, Los Pirañas, Los Toscos, and ALICE’s own Meridian Brothers. La Sonora Mazuren’s first album “Bailando con Extraños” (2023) is produced by the renowned Eblis Álvarez of Meridian Brothers on the Barbes Records Label. Above all, La Sonora Mazuren is a spectacular, festive, and well-playing live band that takes the audience by storm wherever they perform. We look forward to welcoming the Colombian septet when they come and perform at ALICE in October.
