Through the combination of flute, cello, and drums, Norwegian jazz flutist Henriette Eilertsen challenges the traditional ideas of what a jazz trio should be. However, the union of these three instruments, in their close and intense interplay, produces a wonderfully meditative tone that allows the listener to drift away. Joel Ring on cello, Øystein Aarnes Vik on drums, and Eilertsen herself on flute form a chamber trio with a keen sense of rhythmic music, rich in layers. Their bubbling synergy gives a respectful nod to jazz history, while pursuing a progressive agenda inspired by flutes from both near and far.
Henriette Eilertsen has quickly made a name for herself as a distinct voice on the Norwegian jazz scene. She explores and plays with the role of the jazz flute in the modern jazz and improv landscape and has left a strong mark through concerts and several acclaimed releases in recent years, including collaborations with names like OJKOS and Master Oogway. She made a particularly striking debut with her solo album “Poems for Flute” (2021), where acoustic recordings blend seamlessly in a bitcrush universe. We guarantee a delightful evening when Henriette Eilertsen and her trio perform at ALICE this November.
