The music of Dareyn combines the mystical sound of the kemenche – with its heritage of  traditional music originating from Istanbul and the Silk Road – and the deep-rooted sound of the cello in a contemporary fashion. The powerful and poetic sax trio Coriolis is added to the bill. The concert is presented in collaboration with KLANG Festival.

The repertoire takes its inspiration from the beauty of modality, the dynamic character of  bowing and the rich world of rhythms. Emine Bostanci and Maya Fridman blend their voices with their instrumental expertise, creating a uniquely mesmerizing soundscape with  percussionist Vinsent Planjer.

Their music creates dialogues of unspoken narratives which appeal to the imagination of  each listener.

Lineup:
Emine Bostanci (TR) plays the lyrical kemenche, a traditional stringed bowed instrument based  on Istanbul, which began to flourish during the Ottoman period. She fuses makams, taksim, and elements of Sufi music with her rich musical experience in contemporary world music.

Maya Fridman (RU/NL) plays the cello, she has the unique talent to find a deeper meaning in music, and express it with a strong emotional performance. Her passion for new music is an outstanding investment for the future development of the instrument.

Vinsent Planjer (NL) lends his unique percussion set that combines various instruments from  different parts of the world. His extensive background in jazz and several world music traditions, creates new rhythmical soundscapes.

Coriolis
From an airy whisper to a powerful storm, Coriolis harnesses the centrifugal force that arises when three strong musical voices converge in a cascading rush of polyphony, dissonance, abstract textures, and poetic themes. Within this trio, saxophonists Nana Pi Aabo-Kim, Carolyn Goodwin, and Maria Dybbroe explore the boundless tonal possibilities of their instruments, presenting their discoveries in one body, one vessel, one ultra-instrument. At times, Coriolis propels you off balance through sheer gale force, but their multifaceted sound also possesses the capacity to gently caress the ear, with air currents as delicate and fragile as early morning dew.

The members of Coriolis are all part of the Scandinavian collective Barefoot Records. In addition to the musician’s individual projects such as Copenhagen Clarinet Choir, Thou Sonic Friend, Nezelhorns, Caktus, Køs, and Extemporize Orchestra, Coriolis has collaborated with Katrine Stochholm (Under Byen) and the vocal trio ILINX. Alongside meteorological and anemological phenomena, the trio draws musical inspiration from artists like Evan Parker, Björk, and Bon Iver.
