ALAWARI is a Copenhagen-based sextet with a fresh European sound. Echoes of past wars and revolutions resonate in their music, blending elements of classical music and traditional jazz into a compelling format that has never been more relevant. ALAWARI offers orchestral, compositional, and improvised music that both overwhelms and surprises the listener. Through their strong instrumental and compositional prowess, the sextet seeks to create an intense and immersive experience that momentarily tears the world apart, allowing the listener to piece it back together. Known for their unmatched live performances, this exceptionally skilled band takes the audience on a whirlwind musical journey through time.
In April 2022, ALAWARI released their self-titled debut album in collaboration with April Records. The album earned them a Danish Music Award for “New Jazz Artist of the Year” and received outstanding reviews from both Danish and international press. Politiken awarded the album an impressive 5/6 hearts, remarking, “a young Danish band tears the music to pieces.” Since they began playing together in 2016, ALAWARI has toured Germany, Poland, and Slovakia, performed at prominent Copenhagen venues like Jazzhouse and Jazzhus Montmartre, and given numerous concerts during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Now, they are ready to take on ALICE, and we can’t wait to present this young all-star band as they perform a release concert for their new album Leviathan (April Records, 2024) on Nørre Allé.
