ALICE and Fanø Free Folk Festival are proud to kick off a new season of Free Folk Mondays with the fantastic American songwriter Viking Moses. Under the moniker Viking Moses, Baltimore musician Brendon Massei has gained a cult following with his intense concerts and haunted songwriting. His dark songs have often been compared to such artists as Will Oldham and David Eugene Edwards, but you will also find elements of classic American songwriters like Townes van Zandt. Viking Moses was originally signed by the legendary Alan McGhee and released the album “Crosses” in 2006. In 2019 his new album “Cruel Child” was released to great reviews. Post Trash wrote: “It feels human, as if Massei has laid his soul bare to reach some type of truth about the human condition. It is a record of questions, with a multitude of different answers and it begs the listener to hang on every word he sings.”
The evening will also feature a show by the highly original and versatile Danish musician Jeppe Højgaard. Having for many years been a distinct musician on the Danish improv scene, in 2016 he released the bold and ambitious triple album “Gennem Glasset”, showcasing a mix of experimental compositions, improvised music and fragile poetic folk songs. His latest album “Skrig Hvis Du Har Lunger” sees him defining his own strange place between vocal, glitch noises and manipulated church organ. Not your average folk singer, but definitely a voice not to be missed!
