Østerlide stepped onto the Norwegian folk music scene in 2020 to an enthusiastic reception from audiences and glowing reviews from critics. On their self-titled debut album, the trio revitalizes traditional folk melodies with resonant nuances of light, dark, strong, and raw textures. Østerlide masterfully navigates a wide range of moods – from whispering softness to brutal noise. Whether in open sonic landscapes or tight, claustrophobic musical spaces, the listener is always carried along by resilient and timeless folk melodies, shaped and refined over centuries.
Østerlide is now back with a new album. “It doesn’t get more beautiful than this,” wrote Ballade magazine about the title track “Kilden.” Delicate vocals, glockenspiel, and guitar beautifully complement each other as light and ethereal soundscapes give way to driving guitar riffs and full-force percussion. The listener is served blood-drenched stories from the darkest Middle Ages alongside tales of miracles and ghosts, love, and a deep yearning for heaven. At the center stand the resilient and timeless folk melodies, shaped and refined over centuries. When these melodies and stories are reimagined in Østerlide’s soundscape, they acquire new nuances of color, light, and shadow, yet remain the same – both new and old at once. Prepare for a magical evening in the spirit of timeless folk melodies when Østerlide performs at ALICE. The concert will feature both standing and seating areas.
