Afion (HR)

Balkan folk

As a consequence of the widespread situation with Corona virus/COVID-19, Afion have sadly been forced to cancel their Spring tour. This means that the concert at ALICE on April 22nd is cancelled. The band will be back at ALICE in 2021. More info to follow soon. All purchased tickets will be refunded via Billetto. Please stay tuned on updates about ALICE and the Corona virus situation here.

Merging traditional music from Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia which they fashion in their own and original interpretations and compositions, Afion has created a name for themselves, not only in their home land Croatia, but also around Europe. At more than five hundred concerts, playing in the clubs as well as on big festival stages they gained a cult status and large number of followers. Their live performances are probably best described in few words as the “acoustic sound with the energy of the rock & roll band” (J. Bousfield, Rough Guide to Croatia) which makes the audience dance, laugh and cry. Afion’s both studio albums (Afion, 2006 and Čudni svati, 2008) are nominated for the Croatian Music Award Porin.

The members of Afion are being engaged in various music projects, collaborating with many other musicians and are involved in teaching as well as giving music workshops led by the idea that, to stay “alive”, music should be shared. After hiatus of several years Afion is coming back more mature and hungry for new performances with new material. The first single “Urodile žute kruške” is a great announcement for the new album which we expect to be out before the end of this year. Fans of poetic Balkan folk should not miss their concert at ALICE!
