With one foot in sacred folk traditions and the other in vibrant, uplifting pop music, ADG7 (Ak Dan Gwang Chil) is a fantastic, captivating live band. The award-winning group consists of 9 musicians and singers who deliver a rich repertoire inspired by Korea’s sacred, shamanistic music (gut) and beloved folk songs (minyo) from Hwanghae Province in a deeply original way. Armed with instruments like the flute instrument daeguem and the string instrument ajaeng, ADG7 effortlessly unfolds the spiritual energy of Korean folklore into K-pop-infused arrangements. With three strong folk singers in the front, subtly coordinated choreography, harmonious vocals, colorful costumes, sublime playing, and engagingly humorous live energy, ADG7 brings the audience to ecstasy.
ADG7 was formed in 2015, the year Korea commemorated the 70th anniversary of its national liberation. By reconnecting to the shared Korean cultural roots, ADG7 expresses the significance of liberation and the desire for unity. ADG7 has been honored with awards such as Best Group at the KBS Korean Traditional Music Awards 2018 and the Sori Frontier Award at the Jeongju International Sori Festival 2017.
ADG7 has enriched festivals such as WOMEX, globalFEST, WOMAD, Glastonbury, Sziget, Montreal Jazz Fest, and Roskilde. Now they return strongly to Denmark, ready to take the stage at ALICE.
Said about ADG7
“A most astonishing show musically and immensely entertaining – Ak Dan Gwang Chil from South Korea. WOW!!!” – Bob Boilen, NPR Music
“The nine-member ensemble presents itself not as earnest traditionalists, but as a giddy show band with all the trappings of K-pop — choreographed singers, candy-colored costumes and bouncy, upbeat, often swinging songs that link the concision of folk tunes to the catchy repetition of pop, with brash cymbals for drive and flute and zither lines for instrumental hooks.” – The New York Times
